After making the journey from the Southern Hemisphere back to the Northern, my mom and I stopped for a whirlwind weekend in Chicago to visit my sister before flying on to Colorado. Seeing as my previous experience with Illinois had been limited to the O’Hare Airport, it was quite exciting to get to explore a new city. We crammed a lot into an impossibly short weekend- including shopping on Oak Street, Lou… Read More

The dizzying heights and dizzying climb had me scrambling for a rocky seat amongst the other awestruck hikers. Having left behind the unrelenting gravel crunch of our 4 hour ascent, the deafening silence of the summit rung in my ears. My own two legs had earned me this precarious seat at the top of the world, and it was gratifying and exhilarating. Or it would have been, if I hadn’t been so exhausted. The real… Read More

So it’s official. I leave tomorrow to complete the #2 on my bucket list– Hike a volcano! Mount Rinjani, to be specific. Its the second highest volcano in Indonesia, which is not a particularly comforting fact. But even if I have to drag myself to the summit, it’ll all be more than worth it to catch the sunrise over a view like that. It’s a 4-day trek so keep an eye out… Read More

Waking up to the cool, ominous presence of a summer storm is one of my favorite feelings in the world, and Borneo does thunderstorms best. A reprieve from the days of cloudless, sweltering heat spent bouncing between the nearest AC or pool, the brooding thunderheads were a sigh of cool relief. As well as an excuse for a day of letting myself off the hook from everything- editing and posting my shots from the… Read More

Well I’m back in the southern hemisphere, and still getting used to the heavy, humid heat of what feels like living in a jungle. It’s no small miracle that the worst of the jet lag consists of a 6am wake up reminiscent of having been thrown in a pool; once it’s happend, there is absolutely no chance of geting those last two reasonable hours of slumber. But Thank God, summer has arrived. And it feels like letting… Read More

Its a wet and foggy day for my last day in Boston, which is fine by me. I’ve been running around, finishing papers and closing the last boxes, and trying to let it sink in that my freshman year is over and I won’t be back in this city for four months. It’s a lot to take in. But there’s something comforting in the routine- it always feels the same, packing for… Read More

Nothing beats the delirious high of finally, finally, hitting send on that 10-page paper that has been your nemesis for the last 48 hours. The short-lived glory of not caring about anything, at all, for about half an hour until you realize that was just the first of many final-paper-shaped hurdles you are going to have to jump before you can actually sleep again. And with my final 23 minutes of carefree bliss, I’m daydreaming about the unbelievable four month… Read More

Just found these shots I took on a barely 24-hour stop in Vienna last fall. I’m sure I barely scratched the surface when it comes to truly discovering Vienna, but from my outsiders perspective the city was a bit of a fairy tale. The gorgeous architecture alone is enough to make you feel a little more regal, and I found myself in the perfect place at the perfect time. The autumn day we spent exploring… Read More
