Weekend in the Windy City.
After making the journey from the Southern Hemisphere back to the Northern, my mom and I stopped for a whirlwind weekend in Chicago to visit my sister before flying on to Colorado. Seeing as my previous experience with Illinois had been limited to the O’Hare Airport, it was quite exciting to get to explore a new city. We crammed a lot into an impossibly short weekend- including shopping on Oak Street, Lou Malnati’s deep dish pizza, a boat tour in a Chicago water taxi, and jet lag-inspired 5am walk along Lake Michigan. Chicago, a wonderful contradiction of a big city without the intimidation and skyscrapers with abundant parks and beaches, was easy to adore.
“The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on one’s own country as a foreign land.”
– G. K. Chesterton
